Abstract

An organization consists of a group of employees, and the success of the organization is directly related to the success of that group of employees.  One of the key factors in determining the success of those employees is the relationship that they have with the employer, this paper examines the roles of punishment practices in organizations. This also made an attempt to examine the important behavioral and social issues associated with the use of punishment in organization. This paper made use of content analysis.  The paper recommends that managers should punish only undesirable behaviors, give reprimands as soon as possible, tell employees exactly what kind of work behavior are undesirable and their associated consequences, administer punishment in private and punishment should have information values and employee’s value.
